Building a Better Tomorrow
Central to our UN commitment is the alignment of our ESG strategy with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This global framework lays out 17 goals adopted in 2015 by all 193 Member States of the UN.
It is the ideal blueprint for broadening our approach to sustainability and decarbonisation across the more than 100 countries we serve.
While our operations impact each of the 17 SDGs directly and indirectly, Maxeon will be focusing on four specific goals. By the end of 2021, we plan to have specific 2030 targets and commitments for each of these four SDGs.
Measuring our Impact
Not only do our products help others reduce their carbon footprint, but we measure and reduce our own environmental impact. View our latest sustainability metrics report via the link below. Prior reports are available in the resource library located at the bottom of this page.
Panels as Sustainable as the Energy they Produce
The inaugural pv magazine Sustainability Award in 2019 recognized the sustainable design and business practices surrounding the production of SunPower Maxeon (DC) solar panels.
Cradle to Cradle Certified™
SunPower Maxeon direct current (DC) panels were the world’s first solar panels to earn the prestigious Cradle to Cradle Certified—Bronze designation for a solar panel product. For this certification, panels go through a rigorous evaluation of sustainable practices in the areas of: material health, material reutilization, renewable energy & carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness.
Cradle to Cradle Certified is a certification mark licensed by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. Visit the Cradle to Cradle website for more information on the evaluation categories.
Designing Sustainability Powerhouses
Along the waterfront of Trondheim, Norway sits Powerhouse Brattørkaia. This sleek 18,580-square-metre office building generates twice as much solar energy as it will ever use, sharing the excess with neighboring buildings, electric buses, cars, and the nearby harbor ferry system through a local microgrid. It's a very intentional architectural solution orchestrated by a collaborative that calls itself the Powerhouse Team, and is revolutionizing the way buildings are designed, powered, and ultimately, deconstructed. The project received the prestigious 2020 Intersolar Smarter E-Award: Outstanding Projects in recognition of innovative business models and pioneering solutions in the sustainable energy industry.
